Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway Observed InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) ‘Giving for Good’ September Month for Important Charity Causes in a Bid to Make Positive Difference to the Society

30th September 2019: – In a humble endeavour to empower a range of benevolent causes, just like last year, IHG yet again successfully organized a global initiative called #IHGGivingForGood (September) Month in 2019. In a bid to make a positive difference in the society IHG’s Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway joined hands with various charitable partners to improve their communities, the environment and the lives of others.

‘IHG Giving for Good’ is just one of the many elements of IHG’s True Hospitality for Good program. IHG and the Association form strategic charitable partnerships to make a difference in communities across the globe. These partnerships help deliver action on hospitality skills building, disaster relief and environmental sustainability.

As the flagship philanthropic program for IHG, our seven causes symbolizing True Hospitality for Good drove positive change in the many communities our corporate and hotel colleagues call home. These seven much-appreciated causes were:

  1. Kerala Flood Relief Material Donation: – In regards to the recent fallout of unprecedented flood havoc in Kerala, Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway joined hands with Lions International Club, Norka Roots, Born To Win & Genetiz Foundation in Chennai for ‘Flood Relief Material Collection’. Adding to the joy of giving to the needy, we urged people of Chennai to contribute generously on an immediate basis & save more people from suffering furthermore due to flood devastation. From general necessities to medical necessities, all type of help was provided as we took it upon ourselves to rebuild their lives. Exceljuta Talent Solution Pvt. Ltd., located in Perungudi, OMR, the associates of Holiday Inn Chennai & few other people from the neighbourhood were the major donators for the cause.

2. Cauvery Calling: – Cauvery Calling is a first of its kind campaign, setting the standard for how India’s rivers – the country’s lifelines – can be revitalized. It will initiate the revitalization of the Cauvery river and transform the lives of 84 million people. Armed with a mission to make India green, the associates of Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway donated 100+ saplings towards #CauveryCalling initiative.

3. Traffic Rules & Driving Safety Awareness:- This month on 12th September 2019, we joined hands with Chennai’s Traffic Police Department to make a positive change for driving safety and traffic awareness. In the light of recently altered traffic rules as per Motor Vehicle Amendment Act 2019, we were armed with a mission to enlighten people on road about obeying all road signs and traffic lights. Our team wore the campaign #IHGGivingforGood T-shirts and enlightened people with ‘Keep Safe and Wear a Helmet’ and ‘No Texting, No Talking and No Expectations’ and many other such slogans.

4. Fitness First: – Go Cycling Campaign – In the lieu to make India fitter and stronger than ever before, we also organized a ‘Fitness First – Go Cycling’ campaign. In this drive, with the mission of #FitIndiaMovement & enlighten people on road about the importance of fitness, the associates cycled from the hotel to Crowne Plaza Adyar Park Chennai, Thiruvanmiyur Beach and back to Holiday Inn Chennai on September 17, 2019.

5. Skilling Workshop for Rural Women in Hygiene, Culinary & Hospitality Skills: – Behind a group of women seeking transformation is a swarm of stronger women who have their back. A collaborative skilling workshop by Holiday Inn Chennai, Chennai Volunteers & FICCI Flo Chennai was conducted on September 21, 2019 for 30+ women from a deserving community, in ‘public & work hygiene’, ‘housekeeping’ & ‘culinary’ skills.

6. Beach Clean-Up: – In our bid to stay clean on our pledge of #GivingforGood, this month on 24th September 2019, IHG’s all other three hotels in Chennai joined hands with us to organise a ‘Reduce Waste’ campaign. In this drive, the associates from all the four hotels – InterContinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort, Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park, Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway & Holiday Inn Express Chennai OMR Thoraipakkam along with the students of Chennais Amirta & Mohamed Sathak A.J. College of Engineering went to the beach and handpicked trash, creating a stream of awareness in cleanliness and elaborating upon the harmful effects of trash in the sea.

“At IHG & Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park, we believe in sustainable practices and ensure that we do our bit for the environment. Maintaining our marine ecosystems is extremely necessary and if not done can create serious repercussions to the society. During the beach clean up, our teams have worked hard to ensure the same.” stated Mr. Nalin Madiratta, Area General Manager South India IHG and General Manager Crowne Plaza Chennai Adyar Park.

Expressing his gratitude, Mr. Anand Nair, General Manager of Intercontinental Chennai Mahabalipuram Resort stated that “We at IHG believe that it is just not enough to enjoy the ocean; one must also keep it clean and actively protect them.”

Seconding to this point, Mr. Divakar Shukla, General Manager of Holiday Inn Chennai OMR IT Expressway stated, “From learning how plastic water bottles can literally destroy the ocean to promoting the idea of recycling waste at home instead of just dumping at the beach, this drive’s aim is to work together and fight back against litter on our beaches and preserve our beautiful coastal heritage and wildlife.”

Further, “Eliminating plastic use and not allowing people to carry these toxic items on to the beach can help save our beaches, bringing reusable items such as straws & containers can also help eliminate trash’’, stated Mr. Mohit Rajawat, General Manager of Holiday Inn Express Chennai OMR Thoraipakkam.

7. Aqua Zumba: – Aqua Pool Party was organized with Zumba Fitness Instructor Nelson J on September 22, 2019. A dance inspiration session, Aqua Zumba was exclusively organized for associates and special guests.
