Modern Indian restaurant Ettan sets opening date in Palo Alto

22/02/2020

Ettan, a contemporary Indian restaurant with Michelin cred, will make its debut this Friday, Feb. 21, in Palo Alto.

The restaurant is the brainchild of Atherton-based entrepreneur Ayesha Thapar, who has partnered with Srijith Gopinathan, executive chef of the two-Michelin-starred Campton Place in San Francisco, to create a menu that showcases creative Indian cuisine made with seasonal California ingredients.

“Cal-Indian” cuisine has been Gopinathan’s signature. Last year Campton Place was elevated from its long-held single Michelin star to two stars, with Michelin International director Gwendal Poullennec noting that the distinction makes it one of the very few Indian cuisine restaurants worldwide to be so honored.

The full Ettan menu is still under wraps, but Gopinathan has focused the appetizers section on creative riffs on Paniyaram dumplings and pickled, salted or fermented small bites, along with naan served with house-made butter and hot sauce. Look for shareable large plates of Roasted Tai Snapper in coconut sauce and Jackfruit Kebabs with spicy fig chutney and pickled onions. Desserts will include Sweet Onion Payasam and Caramelized Banana Pudding.

For the beverage program, mixologist Helen Diaz is designing “skinny” cocktails with no added sugar or syrup to complement the signature cocktails.

The restaurant, located in the renovated former Three Seasons space, will seat 120 inside and 60 on the patio.

Details: Ettan will serve dinner six nights a week, starting at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 5 p.m. Sunday (closed Monday) at 518 Bryant St., Palo Alto. 650-752-6281;
