Section 144 removed from Goa.

The North Goa Administration has withdrawn Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code(CrPC). This action taken by the North Goa Government has seen criticism from the tourism industry stakeholders and the opposition party. The withdrawal was announced on Monday after the tourism industry has seen a huge setback. 

The implementation of Section 144 created a fuss among the locals and tourists in Goa. A lot of people cancelled their plans. The issues were growing so Section 144 was withdrawn. The goa Carnival beginning from 22nd February can also be a reason for withdrawal of Section 144. The opposition party has an opinion that this action has adversely affected the tourism of Goa. 

Goa Chief Minister, Promod Sawant was criticized by the opposition party and the tourism industry stakeholders for taking this decision in the peak time of Goa tourism. They demand the Government to reassure the tourists that tourism and holidays are safe in Goa. 

The North Goa collector has given his statement for the same that the order was a precaution to heighten the alertness. The government wanted to impose tenant verification on all the owners of residential accommodations, pg accommodations, private guest houses so that proper verification is done before giving accommodation on rent or lease.
