Mumbai, December is a month of special occasions and festivities galore to celebrate the end of yet another joyous year! Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel- Powai is all set to welcome the festive season with an unusual twist. In keeping with the Christmas spirit, the hotel has recreated the famous Chhatrapathi Shivaji Terminus railway station using gingerbread sticks.

Creating a gingerbread house is one of the most sought after traditions during the holiday season. With indigenous as one of its core values, Renaissance pays tribute to historic monument of the city, CST railways station.

This year, the Gingerbread House at Renaissance has undergone an extremely creative transformation from a regular façade of a cottage house to the beaming edifice of Mumbai’s CST Station. Pastry Chef Javed Merchant and his team have used more than 5790 small gingerbread bricks to depict the red sandstone used to build the CST station in 1878.

The eye-grabbing installation of the CST station Gingerbread House is the result of nearly 200 man hours by the team work of 8 chefs and 20 days of hard work. It has been made from 150 kgs of gingerbread and approximately 45,000 kcal of Christmas cheer. Additionally, over 40 kgs of sugar has been used to touch up the structure.

Commenting on this unique piece of work, Chef Javed Merchant, Executive Pastry Chef, Renaissance Mumbai Convention Centre Hotel – Powai said, “With the holiday season around the corner, we wanted to give the famous Gingerbread House an unusual twist to welcome our guests. The CST Station – Gingerbread House will not only spread festive cheer amongst guests but also allow them a glimpse into the local culture! ”

This marvelous piece of art will be open for public viewing from 2nd December, 2017 onwards along with special Christmas goodies that will be available at the property’s in-house deli – Mumbai Express.
